Search engine optimization (also known as “SEO”) is the process of tweaking a web site to make its search engine ranking rise. Some techniques of search engine optimization include:
- Having other sites link to your site (this is a biggie!)
- Including key words and phrases that describe your site’s purpose, especially within the first sentence of each page
- Linking key words
- Frequent site updates
When optimizing your site, it’s good to focus on keywords that you have a chance of rankly highly on. For example, “romance author” is a very generic keyword and your chances of appearing in the top 10 (first page of results) are pretty slim. But “Austin romance author” might be more achievable.
